LLMs are bad at drawing diagrams. Or are they?
AI InsightThe layout confusion exhibited by LLMs when handling system architecture diagrams exposes their limitations in decoupling spatial geometry from semantic logic. An efficient workflow relies on models generating structured code for specialized tools to render rather than drawing directly.Key TakeawayThe bottleneck of LLMs in architecture diagram generation is shifting from content comprehension to spatial layout stability control. Why It MattersArchitecture diagrams are core to technical communication. If multi-turn modifications frequently collapse layouts, developer efficiency drops significantly, prompting the industry to rethink how LLMs integrate into visualization tasks.Who's Affected- BeneficiaryDevelopersBy shifting to structured formats like Mermaid or Excalidraw, developers can avoid the layout collapse issues of direct image generation by LLMs.
What's NextFuture observations should focus on improvements in multi-turn iteration capabilities for code-driven diagramming in mainstream LLMs.Importance 50/100
